I’ve been trying to get away with not having a lightbox for photographing jewelry, but I think I’m fighting a losing battle. I ended up with the best results using an off-camera flash with soft box placed about four feet away with a 17-50mm 2.8 macro lens at 1/50. Slightly better results were attained when I also held up a diffuser.
