The thing I love about shooting theater performances is that the poses come naturally. Something I can learn from this is to bring a little role playing into portrait sessions by setting a scene and having clients act it out. It’s always great when shots come naturally, but a photographer needs to be strong in their directing skills when clients are a little shy. Luckily, I’m not shy about getting right in there and showing clients exactly what I’m trying to explain when needed.
None of that was needed for these theater shots, though. I was there for two rehearsals as well as some shots after the final show. In that amount of time, even though I don’t know these kids personally, my appreciation for their performances grew. I’m very proud of each and every one of them!
