Light Manipulation

There are some amazing photographers who do brilliant things with light to get the shot they want “in camera”. I’ve tried. It takes a lot of time, patience, and practice. I won’t say I’ve given up, but I will say that I don’t plan on making the investment necessary and gathering a crew to carry lighting equipment for me when I shoot. I’m only 5’3″ and, sadly, I don’t work out. To say I’d like to change that would be setting myself up for failure. So I’ll just let it be. If it happens, it happens. But I digress.

Here is a sample of my own light manipulation done in my digital darkroom. The shot on the right is straight out of the can and was taken quickly while on a walk (not a true workout, don’t get excited, thought my butt muscles felt it later). 😀 The shot on the left draws your eyes where I want them fall – slightly below center. I could have gone more dramatic, but that wasn’t the look I was going for with this photo. It took me less than two minutes to do this, and all I had to carry on that walk was my camera with a 50mm lens on it.

You can take pictures, or you can make photographs. I prefer to make photographs. It truly is an art!
